5’8” Fryed Pollard twin design

$1,550

This experimental design combines a Skip Frye traditional fish outline with a Jim Pollard channel design concept. Curved channels layed into a moderate single concave exiting via a hipped flyer behind the twin fin semi keel setup. More of a step up fish style board, with added nose rocker. The Fryed Pollard is designed for down the line speed and controlled purposeful manoeuvres with plenty of squirt and reliable hold for better waves.

6’4” Pollard thruster design

$1,550

Jim Pollard thruster design glassed in 6 0z Volan (6x6x6), with glassed on fins and resin pin lines.

Burford 1/8” cedar

This unique shape has been influenced by Jim Pollard’s channel design  of the 80s which features a sleek outline curve, with the wide point being slightly forward of centre. This creates a nice even outline curve, pulled in drastically behind the side fins.

The design features include; a moderate even overall rocker which lends itself to a complex bottom contour. This allows the board to get up and go quickly (applied to paddling also ). These contours and channels direct and condense the water towards the fins and smoothly out the through the tail. Additionally, the board has an 80’s style soft down rail edged behind the fins. The combination of these components allows for subtle adjustments with little effort required.

The board features smaller side fins to which you would normally see, with less toe-in (running almost parallel to the stringer) as well as, a larger centre fin with a wider spread on the fin position. This enables speed, drive and release which complements the bottom contours. The double concave bottom then flows into 6 channels curving parallel to the outline curve, between the fins a vee is present to allow the board to transition easily from rail to rail.

The entire designs equates to ease of speed  control, rapid acceleration (thrust) and hold through turns. The designs enables enhanced tube riding control as well as reliable handling in critical situations with minimal effort required. Think single fin flow down the line and then  trusty thruster on rail.

Try the pulled in tail for steep hollow waves or a wider tail area for smaller flatter waves. The design features are adaptable for various conditions and desired purpose.

6’11” midlength

$1,250 (fin not included)

Hull style shape without the hull (rolled bottom), a mid length with a fuller nose outline pulled into a soft round tail with subtle vee-double concave behind the centre point, moderate rocker and low soft rails. A midlength for slicing deep in the face, reliable through turns and can handle some size without the need for side fins.

The 7’4”  1969 model

$1,600 (fin included)

The heritage of this outline is from the Cowley Surfboards Sunshine Coast from late 1969. It was created right before boards went under 6 foot. Rail and bottom contours aren’t period correct, they have been modernised for pure function-ability; these being more forgiving high to low rails but fuller (less pinched) with subtle bottom concaves allowing better water flow underneath for less drag and more manoeuvrability. The rocker is low forward and has a long slow tail rocker enabling the board to be surfed from the centre point or from the tail for a more vertical approach.

Burford stringerless (Black glueline)

The 8’0” 1968 model

$1,550 (fin not included)

The template comes directly from a local late 1968 early 1969 period, the transitional era of surfboard design. This design has a full nose continuing through to a 23 inch wide point in the centre with the width carrying down into the hips, pulled in to a pintail. Overall rocker is quite predominant which makes this design very manoeuvrable from wherever you choose to stand. Trim it from the middle, nose ride it or surf it off the tail, or for those who like to move; cross step it and surf the whole board when appropriate. This model has a flat bottom running into a vee double concave toward the fin and transitioning to a slight single concave out through the tail. The board also features an excentuated high to low rail transition from the nose to the tail, all this lends to a user friendly transitional shape without compromising performance.

6’0” BW 1975 single fin

6”0 x 20 1/2” x 2 5/8”

Burford 1/16” cedar stringer

6oz volan x 6oz volan (patch) x 6 oz

The template comes directly from BW’s 1975 all rounder Sunshine Coast single fin. The shape features a flat rocker through out with a little amount of late nose rocker and subtle bottom contours of a slight vee running into a vee-double concave beside the fin. The area in the tail gives the board constant speed and carry especially over dead section. This design is great for connecting the dots and enhancing flow between manoeuvres.
